Placement Week Q&A

What are Placement Classes?

Placement classes help us determine the best level placement for dancers for the upcoming season. Dancers will take Ballet and Jazz classes by age group, which also helps us place for Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, and Hip Hop.

Acro placements will be done separately by level.

What age group should my dancer attend?

Placement age groups should be based on your dancer’s age as of September 1, 2026 for the upcoming season.

Are placements required?

No — placements are not required, but they are VERY highly recommended.

With over 75 classes offered and up to 7–8 levels within certain genres, seeing dancers together helps us create the strongest class groupings possible based on:

  • Ability & technical understanding

  • Learning styles

  • Work ethic & focus

  • Confidence level

  • Age & maturity

  • Training goals & interests

Our goal is to create levels where dancers are challenged, growing, and surrounded by peers they can progress alongside throughout the season.

Why are placements important?

Placement week helps us:
✔ Build the most successful class groupings
✔ Avoid overcrowding or under-filled levels
✔ Keep dancers appropriately challenged
✔ Prevent burnout or overwhelm
✔ Finalize the fall schedule with minimal changes later

Seeing everyone at once gives us the clearest picture possible as we plan the entire season.

What styles do placements cover?

Placement classes help determine placement for:

  • Ballet

  • Jazz

  • Lyrical

  • Contemporary

  • Modern

  • Hip Hop

Acro is evaluated separately by level.

How long are placements?

Most placement classes are approximately 1.5–2 hours.

Some dancers may be asked to attend an additional age group if we need further evaluation for placement accuracy.

Are placements open to new students?

Yes! Placement week is open to both current and new students.

Will company invitations be given?

Yes — company audition invitations and recommendations may be offered during placement week.

If your family is interested in our competitive companies, we will also be hosting our Company Parent Meeting:

📍 Thursday at 6:00 PM

This meeting is for families interested in learning more about our competitive team opportunities, expectations, training structure, and upcoming season plans.

What if my dancer cannot attend?

While we understand summer schedules can be busy, attending placements truly helps us make the best decisions for your dancer and for the overall structure of the season.

If you cannot attend, please reach out to us directly so we can discuss the best next steps.
